Martha Weaver Reeves Smith, age 85, of Atlanta, Georgia, died peacefully in her sleep the morning of August 6th in Houston, Texas after a courageous two-year battle with cancer. Born in Thomaston, Georgia on May 30, 1932, Martha graduated from Robert E. Lee High School (Thomaston, Georgia) and Marjorie Webster Junior College (Washington, D.C.) where she received her Associate of Arts degree. She also received her Bachelor of Arts degree in English in 1954 from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill where she an active member in the Alpha Delta Pi sorority.

Martha lived in Atlanta, Georgia from 1954 until her death. She was an active member of the Buckhead community: as a devoted parishioner at the Cathedral of Saint Philip, she was an involved participant in the Saint Elizabeth's Guild and a strong supporter of the annual Cathedral Antiques Show from its beginning. She was a member of the Ivy Garden Club with a particular fondness for beautiful gardens, traveling to visit gardens around the world with family and friends. Martha was a lover of the fine arts: from classical music to architecture to art history. She was a Carolina Tar Heels basketball fan and avid bridge player up to the last weeks of her life.

Martha is survived by her two devoted daughters, Martha Drake of Atlanta, Georgia and Anne of Knoxville, Tennessee, who were by her bedside at the end of her life; her three grandchildren Martha Drake Reeves Knights (Kristian) of Highlands, North Carolina; Robert Reeves (Claire) of Geoje, South Korea; and Juliette deBondeli Weaver of Knoxville, Tennessee - all of whom adored their beloved "Bop." She is further survived by her devoted brother Samuel T. Reeves (Betsy) of North Palm Beach, Florida; her four nieces Elizabeth, Annesley, Sandra, and Virginia and their families; close friends; and her faithful pet pug Harold.
Her family would like to extend grateful hearts to Martha's medical team at MD Anderson Cancer Center and the entire staff of the Jesse H. Jones Rotary House in Houston, Texas for providing such extraordinary care the past two years, as well as the caring services of Houston Hospice for her comfort in her final few days.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests a donation be made to The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center (www.mdanderson.org) or Houston Hospice (www.houstonhospice.org).

The family will host a memorial service in celebration of Martha's life at the Cathedral of Saint Philip in Atlanta, Georgia at 2:00 PM on Saturday, August 12th with a reception to follow. An interment service will take place that morning at 9:15 AM at Glenwood Cemetery in Thomaston, Georgia where she will be laid to rest beside her beloved mother Martha Drake Weaver Reeves, father Thomas Fambro Reeves, and treasured maternal grandmother Juliette Taylor Weaver.
