Mrs. Beverly Griffith Dobbs Mitchell of Atlanta, GA passed away September 11, 2017. Daughter of the late John Henry Dobbs and Mary Butt Griffith Dobbs, she was born and raised in Atlanta, Georgia. Mrs. Mitchell graduated from Washington Seminary and attended Stephens College. A student at her mother's Griffith School of Music, she was a talented musician. As a young lady she played the harp at the White House for President Franklin D. Roosevelt, and could often be found sharing her love for music with those around her. She also had a passion for entertaining and enjoyed hosting her many friends for Bridge Club and Garden Club.

Mrs. Mitchell was an involved member of Peachtree Presbyterian Church joining in the mid 1970's. She served as a Stephen Minister along with numerous other volunteer roles. She and her husband, John, dedicated their lives to helping those in the community. Their countless hours serving as volunteers benefited organizations such as The American Heart Association, Arthritis Foundation, Atlanta Zoo, Shepherd Spinal Center, Board of Friends at Piedmont Hospital and the Foundation Board of Northside Hospital.

Mrs. Mitchell was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She inspired those around her by exemplifying grace, elegance, charm, and was a true southern hostess. She was preceded in death by the love of her life, John O. Mitchell, Sr. and her son, James Griffith Mitchell. She is survived by her daughter Beverly Mitchell Ellithorp (Daniel) and son John O. Mitchell, Jr. (Ofilia); six grandchildren, Mary Ellithorp James (Frankie), Daniel Mitchell Ellithorp (Ginny), Montana Griffith Mitchell (Andrew), Yancey Mitchell Miller (Charlie), John Edward Ellithorp (Carolyn), and Ofilia Olive Mitchell; and nine great grandchildren. There will be a private service for family at Peachtree Presbyterian Church. For those who wish to do so, the family asks that memorial donations be made to one of the many organizations which so greatly enriched her life: Stephen Ministry at Peachtree Presbyterian Church, Breast Cancer charity of your choice, or Shepherd Spinal Center.
